Saving the Bellfoundry - Architect's Talk
View More
Join us for an afternoon talk and Q&A with project architect Andy Senior, Associate at internationally-renowned firm Caroe Architecture. This FREE event will take place Thursday, 29th September, 3-5 pm at the bellfoundry. The event will include light refreshments and a short walk around the site after the talk.
About the Project
John Taylor and Company have been manufacturing from Freehold Street, Loughborough Since 1859, producing bells for clients nationally and internationally. In 2010 the foundry buildings achieved grade II* listed status, being recognized by Historic England for their more than special interest and putting the bellfoundry in the exclusive 5.8% of grade II* listed buildings in the UK.
After 163 years of continual operations, the buildings are in need of some repairs and upgrades. We are about to start physical works on site, providing improved visitor access, improved museum facilities and much needed improvement to building fabric and staff accommodation. This will all take place while maintaining working operations, as Taylor's continue to cast what are probably the best bells in the world!
Caroe Architecture Limited are lead designers for this exciting and unique project and would like to introduce you to the scheme, outline the decision making processes involved and the complications of planning works around a busy working environment.
